Cell phones and other technologies have killed the art of conversation and the many benefits it provides.  Back in the day, we would gather around kitchen tables, front porches and backyards and have real conversations – about topics that mattered to Black people.  Topics that were important to US.

These conversations were vital because most of us spent countless hours each week in schools and at jobs where our history, perspectives and stories were neither welcomed nor allowed.  We played the role and masked ourselves.  So, gathering amongst ourselves, and sharing our thoughts with each other – both candidly and raw – wasn’t just fun and informative, it was therapeutic.  

These conversations connected family, bonded friends and neighborhoods and helped to build the “Unity” in our “community.” Truthing Cards were created to bring back those times, to foster these important conversations and to provide Black folks with a tool for real, meaningful and powerful engagement.
