In the year 1999, I started playing basketball at my high school Christian Brothers College in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. A private, catholic high school meant that sneakers were not only affordable, but we had the luxury of choice! We had a game with an opposing high school, took the bus there, to a township and played what we didn't anticipate to be a formidable team, because 50% of the team didn't have sneakers on.

Arrogantly, we thought the day was ours, until we were beaten by 50 points.

Sneakers don't make a huge difference, talent does!
